At different ages I loved Charlotte's Web, the Borrowers, Pippi Longstocking (coming from my dysfunctional, inhibited background, her free-spirited antics were "enlightening"); and Little Men was read more than once. I think I read The Red Fern, I know I enjoyed Island of the Blue Dolphins, but the other books don't ring a bell. A book -not- on the list that I really think is great (and short) is "Oh the Places You'll Go" by Dr. Seuss; and I have to say that "A Proud Taste for Scarlet and Miniver" by Konigsberg when I was a young teen set me off on a life-long enjoyment of historical fiction (and history in general).
